The course will be relevant to health, allied health, third sector, social care and social work professionals, family carers and students. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
method of delivery
The online course is currently delivered live on Zoom for up to 20 staff from one organisation. To take part, staff are advised to use a PC or laptop with stable internet connection. Use of a headset (to cut out background noise) is encouraged and a microphone (to enable full participation) is required.

- Ongoing access to an online course toolkit which contains handouts, videos and additional downloadable resources. The password is provided to course attendees.
- Support to develop a plan to embed your learning in practice.
learning objectives
Those attending will be supported to:
- Understand current evidence in supporting people with a learning disability and dementia.
- Recognise the human rights of people with a learning disability and dementia to make decisions, exercise choice, and access information, including about their diagnosis.
- Engage with practical activities that reinforce the importance of individualised support, including the impact of the environment across care settings.
- Develop and apply an outcome-focused approach to providing care and support.
- Develop (with colleagues as appropriate) a draft organisational plan/strategy for supporting individuals ageing with a learning disability and dementia.
